questions
Yes. All construction volunteers must be at least 16+ years to work on an “active” build site (meaning, power tools are in use). In order to use power tools, volunteers must be 18+.
Exceptions for under 16 years:
- Working alongside a parent or guardian
- Build site is not “active”
- The project is landscaping or any low-risk task
- Not younger than 14 years
Parent or guardian of minor volunteers must sign a separate minor release waiver.
No, not at all!
Previous experience never hurts, but it isn’t necessary. Our experienced construction crew will provide all of the on-the-job training needed for the day’s tasks.
Unless you hear otherwise from our LeAnn, our Volunteer Coordinator, via email (by 7:00 a.m. the day of your scheduled shift), plan to volunteer rain or shine. Our construction crew can often adjust tasks to accommodate for inclement weather.
Volunteers construct the majority of our homes. You make it happen! Of course we leave the big stuff such as plumbing, HVAC, and electrical to the professionals, but the rest we leave to you, our volunteers. You might be framing, roofing, siding, hanging drywall, painting, insulating, doing finish work, or landscaping.
We provide all necessary tools and safety equipment. If preferred, you may bring your own. Please label all personal tools with your name. But, please, NO power tools.
Although not mandatory, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves, if available.
Bottled water is provided on-site, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own filled, reusable water bottles to reduce waste and ensure proper hydration. We also provide snacks, such as granola bars, in case volunteers need energy during the build shift. You are welcome to bring your own snacks, especially if you are coming as a group.
Absolutely! If you are over 18+ years and are not serving hours for theft or a sexual offense, you may work at either our Orem or Spanish Fork ReStore. Assist in unloading and receiving donations, as well as cleaning, straightening, and organizing the stores. Some work may be outside doing landscaping and general maintenance. Hours are available Tuesday Saturday from 10-6.
Are you a contractor, tradesperson, or subcontractor and need to do community service? We might be able to use your skills at one of our build sites, depending on current projects.
Under 18 years old? We can put you to work at the ReStore as long as a parent or guardian works alongside you.
